The Astronomik 6nm H-alpha MaxFr Filter is specifically designed for capturing images of hydrogen-rich nebulae when using optical setups with fast focal ratios (generally faster than f/3 and up to f/2). By restricting wavelengths beyond the 656nm spectral line with a full width half maximum bandpass of 6nm, and accounting and correcting any band shift that occurs typical in fast focal ratios, this filter accentuates the Hydrogen alpha spectral line, isolating it from the broader spectral range and enhancing the visibility of details.

Astronomik H-Alpha 6nm MaxFR Filter Features

  • Superb light transmission of 90% when using f/2 optics at the H-Alpha 656nm spectral line, ensuring adequate capture of details.
  • Half Width Half Maximum bandpass of 6nm to filter out wavelengths outside of the H-Alpha spectral range, making details even in light polluted locations more apparent.
  • Blocks unwanted light from UV up to IR, thus removing excess stray light and scatter.
  • Parfocal with other Astronomik filters making refocusing unnecessary when switching between different filters using the same imaging and optics configuration.
  • Designed to work with optics up to f/2 focal ratio to account for any bandshifting that occurs with fast focal ratio optics. For mid to slower focal ratios, the standard Astronomik H-alpha 6nm filters are recommended.
  • Moisture and scratch resistant.
  • Includes small storage box to be protected from external damage when not in use.
  • This configuration of the H-Alpha 6nm MaxFr filter is Sony Alpha 7 Clip.

Benefits of MaxFR H-Alpha Narrowband Imaging

The Astronomik 6nm MaxFR H-alpha Filter is geared for capturing images of nebulae that are hydrogen abundant when using optics with extremely fast focal ratios (such as Celestron RASA or Hyperstar). Since it filters out wavelengths beyond the 656nm spectral line with a full width half maximum bandpass of 6nm,  it emphasizes the Hydrogen alpha spectral line away from the rest of the spectral range so details become more apparent while simultaneously accounting for and adjusting for any band shift that occurs with fast focal ratio optics. Due to its extreme narrowband features, it is helpful for astrophotography even in light polluted areas since light pollution wavelengths are generally outside of this range. With a rocksolid 90% light transmission rate when using f/2 optics, imagers can be rest assured that no significant loss of light will miss hitting the camera sensor, thus ensuring exposures are crisp with maximum illumination consistent with the sensor quantum efficiency and full well capacity.
