Noteworthy updates include the addition of a modeling lamp, offering a visual representation of light emission, and the incorporation of a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack.

Powered by a lithium-ion battery pack, the Speedlite EL-5 achieves a guide number of 60 meters/169.9ft @ 200mm. Its swift energy recycling time of 1.2 seconds and the ability to deliver up to 350 full-power flashes on a single charge make it a high-performance flash unit.

Designed for user convenience, the Speedlite EL-5 boasts a joystick and a select dial, facilitating seamless adjustments to camera settings during shooting. Furthermore, the inclusion of a new Multi-functional connector at the flash's foot enables communication with other shoe-equipped cameras, enhancing its versatility.

The LED modeling lamp of the Canon Speedlite EL-5 is dust and weather-resistant, and it also has a sealed battery compartment. The LED aids its ability to acquire autofocus in dim environments. It has various flash modes and can be assigned to certain RF lenses' control rings. The flash is currently compatible with only the Canon EOS R3, R7, R10, and the new R6 Mark II. It can be charged using the same type of charger that's used for the batteries in many Canon cameras.
