Areas of the night sky that are near intense and concentrated sources of artificial light, such as cities, are known to be affected by light pollution. These include outdoor and interior lights used for commercial and residential buildings, as well as billboards and street lamps.

These sources can contribute to light pollution, which is known as skyglow. It can obscure the Milky Way, individual stars, and other astronomical objects in the sky. Also, the artificial lights in clusters can become hard to individually identify. Light pollution from these sources can cause images to become blurry and distract from one another.
