Overview
In terms of its physical appearance, the Ricoh GR III Street Edition Digital Camera retains its familiar compact form, yet it integrates a redesigned control layout aimed at enhancing grip comfort while ensuring effortless access to physical controls. Its image composition, playback, and menu navigation are facilitated by a 3.0" 1.037m-dot LCD screen, featuring a touchscreen interface that enables intuitive control and Touch AF functionality. Furthermore, the camera is equipped with built-in Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing seamless pairing with a mobile device for swift, wireless file transfers to your smartphone or tablet.
Street Edition
The camera body showcases a distinctive "asphalt-like" surface texture achieved through a multi-layer spray process, offering a smooth yet grippy feel.
Highlighting the camera's design, a vibrant yellow-orange hue adorns the ring cap, reminiscent of street traffic lines.
The shutdown screen is characterized by a specially crafted product logo and a street-view image, emphasizing the camera's "street snapshot" concept.
Adding functionality, the GR III Street Edition Digital Camera introduces the Full-Press Snap feature, allowing instant focus point adjustment to a preselected position when fully pressing the shutter release button. This function can also be activated via the rear LCD, enabling quick focus shifts with a simple tap on the touchscreen bypassing the standard autofocus process to easily capture spontaneous moments.
For extended photography sessions, the Ricoh GR III package for sale includes two DB-110 batteries to ensure prolonged usage without interruption.
24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and GR Engine 6
Boasting an updated design, the camera features a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor coupled with the new GR Engine 6, delivering high-resolution 14-bit DNG or JPEG stills characterized by remarkable tonality, true-to-life color rendition, and impressive sensitivity spanning ISO 100-102400. Alongside capturing full-resolution, wide-angle images, it offers two practical crop modes—35mm at 15MP and 50mm at 7MP—enabling you to replicate the visual effect of longer focal lengths.
In addition to still photography, the GR III showcases Full HD 1080 video recording capabilities at 60p, 30p, and 24p frame rates.
Prime Wide-Angle Lens
Featuring a fixed prime 18.3mm lens, this camera offers a comfortable 28mm equivalent wide-angle perspective. Its bright f/2.8 maximum aperture ensures versatility in various lighting conditions. The optical configuration consists of six elements in four groups, including two aspherical elements, effectively minimizing spherical aberrations and distortion, thereby enhancing sharpness and accuracy.
Two focusing modes cater to general subjects, ranging from 3.9 inches to infinity. Additionally, a dedicated macro setting facilitates close-up photography within a 2.4 to 4.7-inch range. An internal two-stop effective (ND 0.6) filter allows for adjusting shutter speed or widening the aperture. The lens incorporates a nine-blade diaphragm, contributing to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Furthermore, the redesigned lens construction enhances contrast and reduces the camera's thickness by 1.5mm compared to previous GR/GR II digital models.
Shake Reduction System
A 3-axis Shake Reduction System is incorporated to mitigate camera shake, enhancing the sharpness of handheld shots taken at slower shutter speeds. Specifically optimized for the built-in 28mm-equivalent lens, this system is both compact and highly efficient. Furthermore, the SR unit provides moiré reduction and dust removal functionalities.
Body Design
The defining characteristic of the GR-series has always been its compact, pocketable form factor, paired with a large image sensor and a bright prime lens.
Featuring a 3.0" 1.037m-dot LCD, the Ricoh GR III Street Edition Digital Camera integrates a capacitive touchscreen design, facilitating intuitive operation for shooting, playback, and menu navigation.
A complete overhaul of the rear layout prioritizes a larger, more ergonomic thumb grip, alongside conveniently positioned physical dials. Moreover, the ADJ lever, FN button, and Touch AF operations are customizable, allowing users to assign specific functions for personalized control.
Start-up time has been reduced to just 0.8 seconds, while Hybrid AF performance has been enhanced for smoother operation.
Equipped with integrated Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi, the Ricoh GR III Street Edition Digital Camera enables wireless connectivity with a paired mobile device. This feature allows for embedding location information within files and facilitates file transfer to a mobile device, even when the camera is powered off.
The included DB-110 rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 200 shots per charge.
Furthermore, a USB Type-C port is available for file transfer and in-camera battery recharging.
