Sony - a7 V Mirrorless Camera - Body Only

Sony's a7 V is a hybrid mirrorless camera that doesn't shy away from taking on challenges. It features a robust image performance and is ideal for capturing high-speed action videos. It also comes with a variety of features designed to make content creators' lives easier, such as its built-in AI subject recognition.

Sony - a7 V Mirrorless Camera - Body Only Key Features:

33MP Partially-Stacked Exmor RS Sensor

BIONZ XR2 Processor, Built-In AI Unit

759-Point PDAF with Real-time Tracking

AI Subject Recognition & Auto Framing

33MP Exmor RS CMOS Full-Frame Sensor:

The a7 V is the first Sony camera with a partially stacked sensor. It features a 33MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor, which is faster than the a7 IV's 32MP sensor and has a reduced rolling shutter speed. In addition, it comes with a new processor, which enables a variety of flagship-level features, such as faster continuous shooting and better subject recognition. The a7 V's 33MP Exmor R CMOS sensor features a native ISO of 100 to 51200 and a partially stacked design that contributes to a fast 1/16,000-sec electronic shutter speed.

BIONZ XR2 Processor:

The latest version of the BIONZ XR2 processor is designed to improve the overall performance and speed. It features an AI component that can help improve the autofocus and color accuracy. It also has a better auto white balance system. In addition, it can perform blackout-free shooting at 30 frames per second.

Pre-Capture & Speed Boost:

The a7 V is a camera with additional features that can enhance the capabilities of its sensor. Its pre-capture function allows users to take images to a buffer while the shutter button is pressed. They can then save these to their memory card once the shot has been taken. Through the function, users can automatically set their camera's continuous shooting mode to a faster one to ensure that their next shot is taken just right. Photographers can also choose from a variety of frame rates up to 30 frames per second.

Selectable Raw File Types and Composite RAW Function:

The enhanced processing and partially stacked sensor allow you to work with more flexible raw files. There are a variety of options for choosing the best possible raw format, including a new lightweight one that's ideal for reducing storage space. The ability to extend the raw file processing with the Imaging Edge app is also available. You can create composite images with reduced noise by taking 4 or 16 sequential files at 30 frames per second.

5-Axis Image Stabilization:

The latest version of the in-body stabilization system, which is designed to improve the responsiveness of the camera, now supports up to 7.5 stop of compensation at the center and 6.5 stop at the periphery. It features a high-performance sensor and an algorithm that's optimized for precise shake control.

AF and AI Subject Recognition:

The a7 V's autofocus performance is significantly better than its predecessor, and it borrows from the flagship camera. It features an AI processing unit and a refined subject detection system. The system also has 759 points, which covers 94% of the sensor area. Compared to the a7 IV, the camera is 30 to 50% faster at identifying birds and animals. The a7 V is the first camera to feature an AI processing unit. It can perform intelligent and responsive subject detection and tracking for various subjects such as humans, birds, trains, and animals. Through its Human Pose estimation feature, the camera can accurately focus on the head and body positions of individuals in sports and portrait settings. It can also distinguish between people and keep its focus on the target subject even if one is in front. The ability to track and follow moving subjects with the help of AI subject recognition is ideal for capturing action scenes and sports. With the ability to perform subject recognition automatically, the camera no longer has to select the type of subject it should focus on. The a7 V has two new focus area sizes: the XS and the XL. These features allow users to customize the areas they want to focus on. With the ability to use the lens' focus ring, users can manually focus on a different subject while working with AF.

Video Recording:

The ability to capture UHD 4K 60p XAVC HS video at a 10-bit resolution with fast processing is enabled by the full width of the sensor. This allows you to get the most out of your device. If you use a Super 35 crop, you can get high-speed recording at up to 240p or 4K at 120p. The ability to extend the recording time is enabled by the efficient heat dissipation of the device. A Sigma-shaped heatsink is integrated into the stabilization unit for added thermal consistency. The a7 V is capable of recording up to 4 channels of audio with a compatible microphone. It also supports 24-bit internal recording. A built-in audio reference microphone provides low-noise performance. It features a wind-reduction mode when paired with the internal microphone. The Dynamic Active stabilization system adds substantial electronic noise reduction to improve the stability of your footage while walking, running, and recording handheld tracking videos. It also supports breathing compensation, which helps minimize the effects of focusing on the subject when using certain lenses. In addition, the AI Processing Unit can recognize the subject and automatically crop or recompose it.

Advanced Color Control:

The S-Cinetone color profile can be used to create a healthy-looking skin tone and deliver distinct colors that work well with the cameras of various A-series and FX-series. This is based on the technology used by Cinema Line cameras. Users can utilize S-Log3 to create a variety of dynamic ranges, including a 15+ stop range with increased control over the grading in the shadow to the mid-tone sections. In addition, they can import LUTs into the Creators' Cloud for monitoring.

Body Design and Connectivity:

The a7 V is a sleek and functional 4x LCD monitor that features a new and more functional design. It comes with a variety of features such as side-open and flip-out options.

A 3.2" display with a wide color gamut and a touchscreen makes this monitor ideal for color monitoring. A Quad-VGA OLED EVF with a resolution of 3.68 million dots and 0.78x optical zoom provides clear and vivid eyesight.

The 120Hz response rate of the EVF enables smooth motion video rendering. It also allows users to adjust the brightness and color depending on the task at hand.

When paired with an external recorder, the HDMI A port of this monitor provides a better connection. The dual USB-C ports allow users to connect their devices to the external storage device of their choice.

The first port is labeled as a USB-C 3.2 Gen2. It is designed to allow data transfer up to 10Gbps.

The second port is labeled as a USB-C 2.0 and is used for powering the device and charging the battery. The external microphone and 3.5mm headphones provide additional control over audio recordings.

The Multi-Interface Shoe can be used with the optional ECM-B1M or XLR-K3M Shotgun Microphone. These models allow users to enhance the clarity of their audio recordings by sending a digital signal to their camera.

One pair of memory card slots features a CFexpress Type A/SD combo slot and one additional slot for Type A/SD hybrid drives. This design allows users to store and manage their files with ease.

It can also be utilized for overflow recording. The a7 V accepts a high-capacity lithium-ion battery that's capable of providing up to 630 shots per charge.

This is 23% better than the a7 IV. The a7 V is constructed with a magnesium alloy frame that's ideal for durability and rigidity.

IIt's also lightweight. The a7 V's lens mounts have been improved to provide better support for heavier lenses.

Its grip rigidity has also been improved. Weather-sealed features, such as the terminals, chassis joints, and battery cover, have been utilized to resist moisture and dust for long-lasting operation.

Connectivity:

The a7 V is equipped with NFC and Wi-Fi, which enables it to share photos with other mobile devices. It also has a robust 2x2 MIMO wireless connection for easy remote control and shooting. Connectivity via Bluetooth allows you to collect location data. It's also UVC/UAC-compliant and can support 4K webcam operation. The desktop version of the Imaging Edge Remote allows users to shoot with their computers using a USB-C port or through a Wi-Fi connection. An updated control method for transferring files allows you to use the camera's SD card even after it's turned off.
