BIONZ XR Processing Engine

The new BIONZ XR processor from Sony is up to 8x faster than its predecessors, which helps boost overall performance and provide impressive image quality. It can also handle a wide range of AI-based tasks and intelligent AF. In addition, this processing system can reduce rolling shutter and motion distortions to make sure that you get the most out of your photos.

Sony Exmor R Sensor

The built-in 61MP sensor of the a7R V can capture up to 1,000 frames in a single burst using JPEG. Its structure and copper wiring layer help improve the data transmission speed. It can also create 14-bit stills with a sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 32000.

The new Sony Exmor R sensor can provide even greater resolution than its 61MP counterpart thanks to its unique compositing mode. This feature allows you to create a wider variety of colors and detail in your photos by shifting the sensor while simultaneously making 16 continuous exposures. Through this mode, you can get up to 240.8MP of information, which is more than enough to provide you with the best possible color accuracy and detail. You can then merge these files with the software suite of Sony Imaging.

Even Greater Detail & Resolution

The ability to achieve even greater detail and resolution with the 61MP sensor is enabled by the unique compositing mode. This mode works in conjunction with the stabilization of the image, and it takes 16 exposures to acquire a total of 240.8MP of data. This data can be used to create a variety of high-quality images, and it can be seamlessly integrated into the software suite of Sony Imaging.

The a7CR utilizes AI-based methods to detect the skin tone of subjects for accurate balance adjustments when taking portraits. This method is about 20% more reliable when shooting in direct sunlight or backlit situations. In addition, deep learning techniques and external IR and visible light sensors help produce more accurate white balance and color reproduction.

AI Processing Unit

The a7RC's autofocus is greatly improved by utilizing dedicated processing, and it is assisted by an intelligent subject tracking system and the Alpha hybrid AF system. It also has seven target types that can be customized.

The Human is a tool that can accurately track the position of the head and body in photos. Its ability to estimate human pose has helped improve the Real-Time Eye AF performance by 60%.

The ability to recognize and track various animal types has been improved by 40% in the Animal, Bird, or Animal/Bird modes. This includes cats, dogs, and birds. With this feature, you can focus on the eyes and recognize the head and body of the animal.

In addition to being able to identify the head, the ability to recognize the entire insect subject makes it even more useful. Camera systems can also detect the nose and front part of airplanes and trains.

The ability to accurately follow moving subjects with Real-Time Tracking is ideal for capturing action and sports scenes. In addition, it can help the camera distinguish people from each other and keep its focus on the one subject.

Video Recording

Using the XAVC S-I codec, you can shoot 60 frames per second in 10-bit 4:2:2 with a bitrate of up to 600 Mb/s. You can also record in 16-bit raw using the included HDMI port for enhanced post-production flexibility and increased tonal reproduction. If you're using a Super 35 crop, you can achieve a full-pixel recording at up to 30p or 6.2K oversampling for enhanced detail and sharpness.

The ability to output 4K 60p and simultaneously record internal 4K files is supported by the camera.

If you're planning on recording in Full HD, you can get 4x and 5x continuous slow motion with the frame rate set to either 24p or 30p. Furthermore, the S-Log3 and the S-Gamut3 feature a total of 15 stops of dynamic range, making it easy to match videos from other Sony cameras.

The S-Cinetone feature can be utilized to deliver a healthy-looking skin tone by using technology from the Cinema Line cameras. It offers a variety of soft and natural mid-tones, as well as well as well-controlled highlights, making it ideal for capturing a specific mood while recording. Creative Looks can also be baked into the footage to create a customized mood.

Users can create their own LUTs and presets that can be used to monitor their footage or preview a specific look while shooting. They can also apply these to the camera's EVF, HDMI, or monitor outputs.
